Thursday December 4th :  6.00 pm in London

MEDICINE ON THE EDGE
Surgeon Captain Peter Buxton, OBE

The next meeting of the Specialist Group will be held on Thursday December 4th at the BCS in the Davidson Building, 5 Southampton Street, WC2E 7HA

It will start at 6.00 (Refreshments will be available from 5.30)

As an abstract, Peter writes:

Medical advice to someone in a remote location must be both timely and competent. The advice must be appropriate to the person’s situation; ideally the information should reach them no matter where they are located.

Any solution must be based around these requirements; developing a clever solution and then looking for a problem is always incorrect.
When designing a solution we should answer the following questions:
- It may be possible but is it desirable?
- What is the actual requirement?
- What is the simplest solution?
- Is the solution reliable?

If we get this right we will support someone working ‘on the edge’. If we don’t we will push them over it.

As usual, there will be a discussion following the presentation.

In order to meet the BCS security requirements and to ensure that we order sufficient food, please email krc@imf.co.uk if you are planning to attend. (If you arrive later than 6.00 pm, you may need to ring the buzzer by the main door, make your way to the back entrance on Exeter Street and wait for whoever is working on BCS reception to come down to let you in.)

Interactive Web Conferences

It is the intention that all the seminars run by the group will also be streamed as interactive web-based conferences for those who are unable to join us. Some seminars may be run entirely as web-based events. The recordings of these seminars will also be available on-line. We will be using the Interwise web-based conferencing system sponsored by the DTI Knowledge Transfer Network. More details on the system are available by registering (free) with the Health Technologies KTN at http://ktn.globalwatchonline.com/epicentric_portal/site/healthtech and then going to the Conference Centre where you can download the client software.
